Early voting has started. Mike Lunceford is my choice for HISD Board of Trustees, District V. This is an open seat. MIke understands the value and importance of quality public education. His commitment to improving the academic growth of all HISD students is evident from the 16 years he has spent as both an HISD and a community volunteer.

Mike and his wife, Erin, have two children who graduated from HISD schools – Horn Elementary, Pershing Middle and Bellaire High Schools. He would represent us well and I am proud to support him. Visit his website at http://www.mikelunceford.com/index.html

West University Place has a City Council Meeting at 6:30pm on Monday. Please click here for the full agenda:

The Friends of West University Place Parks Fund annual event Fathers & Flashlights netted more than $37K, a $10K bump over the previous year.  In spite of the uncooperative weather, the event was a huge success. West U has the following no charge events for residents at Colonial Park beginning at dusk.

October 16:  Movie in the Park – “E.T.”

October 23:  Movie in the Park – “Babe the Gallant Pig”

We have an outdoor movie screen set up at the east end of the park. Toss a blanket and watch the movie. The weather could (and should) be perfect.

Mayor Protests Retirement Plan, But Employee Benefits Safe For Now

Mayor Protests Retirement Plan, But Employee Benefits Safe For Now

Threatening to not vote for a $28million budget because you didn’t get your way on a $35K budget item is not a very positive sign. Mayor Kelly and Councilmember Guffey are great people and well intentioned. But they have never run a business. Their proposal would put West U in a competitive disadvantage and takes too great a risk that would likely cost the taxpayers far more than the $35K they hope to cut.
