On Friday, December 4th, West University Place Councilmember Steven Segal was appointed by the Board of Trustees of the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) to its Advisory Committee on Retirement Matters.

Created in 1947, TMRS covers almost 140,000 employees and more than 34,000 retirees of more than 830 Texas cities. As of August 1, 2009, the TMRS fund totaled more than $15.6 billion. The Advisory Committee on Retirement Matters was created to advise the Board of Trustees.

Segal and his wife, Phyllis, have lived in their home in West University Place for more than 37 years. He is a retired tax partner with Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, where he practiced law for 30+ years. Previously, Segal was a Certified Public Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in Washington, D.C. Steven earned a B.A. from William and Mary, an M.B.A. from the University of Miami and his J.D. from the University of Houston. He previously served on West University Place City Council for four years (03-07) and was elected in May to an additional two year term.

“I am honored to have been selected and look forward to serving,” said Segal. West University Place Mayor Bob Kelly added, “Steven is a great selection. TMRS will benefit greatly from Councilman Segal’s substantial financial experience and methodical attention to detail.”
